Rev. James D. "Buddy" McKinnon, 75 of St. Pauls, NC transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM at The Life Center Church, 498 E. McDuffie Crossing, St. Pauls, NC. Viewing on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM (family will be onsite, 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM) in the Funeral Home Chapel, 412 E. Armfield St., St. Pauls, NC Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, St. Pauls, NC. The family will receive family and friends at the home.
Rev. James D. McKinnon was born October 4, 1945 to the late Deacon James and Lillian McKinnon. He was raised in St. Pauls, NC with his six siblings. Rev. McKinnon transition from this earthly life to eternal rest with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Rev. McKinnon accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (SMBC), St. Pauls, NC where he later served as a Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Deacon. Later, the Lord called him to The Gospel Ministry and he accepted this mission on September 11, 1988. He served as Pastor of SMBC, Dublin, NC and was later called to serve as the Pastor of Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, Rex, NC, simultaneously.
Rev. McKinnon attended the Public School of Robeson County and retired as the owner of McKinnon's Garage. He made history as the first African American owner of an auto rpair shop within the city limits of St. Pauls, NC. Rev. McKinnon was an advocate for equality and humanity.
