Sherman “Pig” Pone, 72, passed away on February 10, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Born on March 3,1952, in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Minnie and Ned Pone.
Sherman attended Bladen Central School in Tar Heel, North Carolina. “Pig” as he was often called was a hardworking man who dedicated over a decade of his life to Barnhill construction where he later retired. Known for his skills as a handyman, he found joy in fixing things and lending a helping hand to those around him. His kindness and generosity made him a pillar of strength for his family. A true backbone who could always be counted on.
Sherman is survived by: his only son, Sherman Douglas Jr. of Charlotte North Carolina; twin sister, Shirley Humphery of Saint Pauls, North Carolina; his brother, Cliffton Pone of Lumberton, North Carolina; his sisters, Patricia Whitted and Gloria Pone both of Saint Pauls, North Carolina and his brother, Alvester (Beck) Whitted of Saint Pauls, North Carolina; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sherman also had a nurse Timothy Wright who wholeheartedly tended him in his time of need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Sherman’s legacy of hard work and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
