Nettie Bell Currie was born on November 8, 1943, in St. Pauls, North Carolina to the late George F. Currie and Vera McMillan Currie. She received her heavenly Father’s calling Tuesday, August 6, 2024. She was fourth of twelve siblings. She graduated at St. Pauls Eastside High and later furthered her education in catering and cosmetology. Vastly known throughout her community and other communities for cooking and catering and notary services. she also found the time to start her own salon.
After graduation, she moved to Brooklyn, New York worked at V.A. Medical Center soon after she married Esau Paige. From that union was formed two sons: Tyrone Paige and Fitzgerald Paige. Years later, they moved back to North Carolina to cement their foundation.
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. As a dedicated member as a usher, choir member, president of kitchen committee, missionary department, pastor aide committee, treasurer of the church and Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was the solid rock of inspiration to all, there was no task too tall for her, no mountain she couldn’t climb. She was a true mentor and inspiration to many young ladies in and around the community that they could have their own beauty shop. She was a joyful soul that could turn a frown upside down and could make a ray of sunshine with a slice of her pound cake. A woman of few words (sometimes) but had a bounty of success fulfilling the needs of the Lord!!
She was preceded in death by her parents, George F. Currie and Vera McMillian Currie; two brothers, David Currie and George R. Currie; three sisters, Georgia Mae Currie, Shirley Currie Quick and Rosie Currie Fennell and one great grandchild, Daeja Nicole Sedwick.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy too: her loving and devoted sons, Tyrone Paige and Fitzgerald Paige; five grandchildren, Fitzgerald Paige, Jr. “Gerald”, Alisha Monique Paige, Marquist Omar Paige, Sharon J. Thompson and Tyrone Paige, Jr. “T.J.”; four great grandchildren, Daevion Jarrel Sedwick, Elizabeth Marie Paige, Marquist O. Paige, Jr. and Sky Aurora Dale; two brothers, Willie A. Currie (Ester) and Alvin Currie (Mocey); four sisters, Legretta Andrews, Sarah McMillian, Ida McEachern and Shelia Clark; a very close special friend, she considered as a sister, Ms. Hattie Mae McLean Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
