Mr. Jessie L. Humphrey, 70, of St. Pauls, NC peacefully passed on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 1:00 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Martin Rd., St. Pauls, NC. Viewing: Monday 1:00 - 6:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive family and friends at 6247 Chicken Foot Rd., St. Pauls, NC 28384.
On Thursday, April 29, 2021 Jessie Lorinza Humphrey (Bruh Love) peacefully entered into eternal life at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Jessie L. Humphrey was born to the late Jessie Franklin Rozier and Annie Ruth Humphrey on January 24, 1951 in Saint Pauls, North Carolina. Here he was raised from an infant and learned the values of life by the late James Rozier and the late Gracie Rozier Esters. After Gracie remarried he continued his life lessons in Bladen County with the late James Esters and Mother Grace, (as she was fondly called).
Lorinza committed his life to God at an early age. He joined Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Fred D. King. Lorinza was one of the founding members of the All Male Choir. He also sang on the Senior Choir, he was an assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and he was a Trustee. He loved his animals, Jimi Hendrix and collecting junk.
In his early years Lorinza attended school in St. Pauls, NC until he moved to Bladen County where he continued his education and graduated from Bladen County Central High School in 1969. After graduating high school he wanted to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corp. Lorinza served his country until he was injured in Vietnam and was airvacked home with an honorable discharge and many metals. (National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge (M14). Therefore, it was a big disappointment for him that he would not be able to continue serving his country.
Preceding Lorinza in death are hid father, Jessie F. Rozier, Grace C. Rozier Esters (who raised him from an infant), James Rozier and his step grandfather, James Esters and his "brothers from another mother," Odell King and Earl Rozier.
Preciou memories of love, laughter and life will forever be with his wife, Shirley Mae Humphrey of over 50 years. Surviving him are: two daughters and one son, Monique S. Kemp of Lumberton, NC, Montrodell A. Humphrey (Melissa) of Selma, NC and Jessica C. Humphrey of Fayetteville, NC; eight grandchildren, William (Tony) A. Kemp, Jr., Latkia Brown, Lamontrail McMillian, Jabrell Wilson, Montashia Smith, Malcolm Hunt, Jonaiya Robinson and Marlei Pratt; five great grandchildren; there are three sisters and two brother, Kenyatta Becktemba (Eytana), Patricia Robinson (James), Marsha Humphrey, Jacqueline Humphrey and Wayne Humphrey (Josephine); three extended sisters and one extended brother that he was raised with and loved dearly; Mary E. Rozier, Marie Ash (Carlos), Linda Sinclair (Javance), James (J.C.) Rozier, (Shirley) and Jeanette Sinclair, his extended family also consisted of stepsisters and stepbrothers, Darlene Esters, Doris Esters, and Alton Esters (Shirley); his mother-in-law, Minnie Pone; two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, one special aunt Betty Lou Sinclair; two best friends, Earl McMillian and Samuel McNair and a host of family and friends near and dear to his heart.
