On April 27, 2023, Mattie peacefully passed away. She was born to Charlie and Lula Davis Glover on June 3, 1933 in St Pauls, North Carolina. She was the youngest of fourteen siblings. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She was truly a woman of determination; she went back to school and received her high school diploma in 1983. She was a dedicated worker to Burlington Industries with over 40 years of service.
She was a devoted and faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She served Shiloh in many capacities, singing in the Senior Choir and working on the Hospitality Ministry. Through her strong Christian values and faith, she and her children donated Bibles to Shiloh Baptist Church. She wanted her church and her family to read and study God’s word together. She was a gracious woman of God who supported the local Singing Union on the second and fifth Sundays. She enjoyed good food, socializing, going to the movies and participating in senior activities with friends. Mattie had a wonderful smile and an infectious laugh that could light up a room.
She served as a journalist for the local newspapers, The Robesonian and The St. Pauls Review, sending in articles on the many accolades and accomplishments of her family. On Sunday mornings she would call announcements into the Red Springs radio station, Powerhouse 1160 - WYDU with birthdays, anniversaries, and community events. She took pride in being a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Mattie was a wonderful homemaker, cook and found great delight in loving on all her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Pete) Robinson; sons, Jimmy Robinson, Jerry W. Robinson, Ervin D. Robinson and Alexander Robinson; parents, Charlie and Lula Davis Glover; brothers, Bennis, Charlie, David, James, Leroy, Mitchell, Raymond Glover and Johnnie D. Blanks; sisters, Addie Dee McMillian, Ella Mae McNair, Flora Harrell, Margaret Blanks and Lula Thompson.
Throughout her 89 years, Mattie touched the hearts of many. She is survived by: her children, Addie M. (Ray) Roberson of Willow Springs, North Carolina, Robert L. (Barbara) Robinson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Retha M. McKinnon of St. Pauls, North Carolina, Leonard (Joanne) Robinson of St. Albans, New York, James (Patricia) Robinson, Lorenza Robinson (Margie) all of St. Pauls, North Carolina and Robyn Glover McCormick of Clinton, Maryland; a devoted daughter-in-love, Beatriz Robinson of Cologne, Germany; 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
