Marlowe Cogdell Obituary

Marlowe Justin Cogdell began his journey on March  29, 1961, born to the late James and Rosa Cogdell. He departed this life on July 17, 2024, transitioning to be with his Lord and Savior.

Marlowe was a Psalm 91 man. Anybody that entered his presence was asked to read it. Marlowe was baptized at an early age and joined First Missionary Baptist Church, St. Pauls, North Carolina, where his father was a founding deacon. He was a dedicated member of First Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. He was the president of the Male Choir and also a member of the Trustee Board. Marlowe always looked forward to Choir Rehearsals on Thursday nights, where he was one of the lead singers for his number one song “I’m Still Here and Running for My Life”. Marlowe couldn’t wait until Sunday morning to attend church to give God praise. He loved his church family and they loved him, for he touched a lot of lives and his memories will never be forgotten.

Marlowe worked at Burlington Mills, St. Pauls, North Carolina for many years and Goodyear Plant where he retired. He loved reading, his favorite book was the Bible. He loved sports: Duke and Carolina Panthers fan. He loved politics (MSNBC and Joy Reid) singing, jazz, yard work and loved to cook. Marlowe favorite dish to make was butter beans and mac and cheese. He was a man of many fashionable hats. Marlowe was a people person, he never met a stranger and never forgot a face. He was loved by everyone that knew him. Family was everything to Marlowe for his vowed to be the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will truly be missed.

Marlowe was preceded in death by his son, Mario W. Cogdell; parents, James and Rosa Cogdell; brothers, Eddie Sherman Cogdell, Edward Narvell Humphrey, Eddie Wadell Humphrey and Carl Cogdell and his twin sister, Marlene Cogdell-Gaddy.

Marlowe memory will be treasured forever in the heart of: his wife, Kathy L. Cogdell; four daughters, Angelica Lilly, Vanessa Lilly, Yaleaka Kennedy (Michael) and Michelle Wallace (Hayward); four sons, Breslin Currie, Justin Lilly, Brandon Lilly and Dontae Lilly; one sister, Mary Cogdell; one brother, Michael Cogdell (Barbara); sisters in-law, Martha Cogdell and Minne Humphrey; twenty  grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
