James Byes “Phillip” McKoy, Jr. was born November 6, 1956, to the late Bishop James B. McKoy, Sr. and Evangelist Bessie McKoy. He took flight on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with his wife at his side.
Phillip received Christ and at a young age joined Solid Rock Holiness Church in St. Pauls, North Carolina where his musical journey began at the age of 14. He later joined East Side Pentecostal Holiness Church and lastly joined Overcoming Faith Ministries in Fayetteville, North Carolina. On August 31, 2002, Phil married Ms. Cynthia McKoy and to their union blended three children.
Most of us know James Byes McKoy, Jr. as Phil, the oldest boy out of thirteen, the traditional keyboard player from St. Pauls, NC. He was a sharp dresser, and he never met a stranger. Although we are sadden by his passing, we are comforted in knowing that, “The Battle is Over”.
Phil leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 22 years, Cyndi McKoy; his sons: Antwan Rozier of St. Pauls, NC; ChaRay (Porsche) Bellamy of Los Angeles, CA; his daughters, Bobbi (Larry) Eubanks of Fayetteville, NC, Caresta (Jai) Smith of St. Pauls, NC; his sisters, Evangelist Lynda Johnson of St. Pauls, NC, Peggy Bowe of Hope Mills, NC, Polly Harrison of St. Pauls, Tammy (James) Starling of Omaha, Nebraska, Yolanda (Pat) Weeks of St. Pauls, Evangelist Meladora (Rev. Sylvester) McAllister of Lumber Bridge, NC, and Ellouise (Timothy) Adams of Fayetteville, NC; his brothers: Timothy (Cathy) McKoy of Raleigh, NC, Teddy (Gwen) McKoy of Durham, NC, and Jeffrey McKoy of St. Pauls, NC; his grandchildren: Zaquavia, Jalen, Nate, Nevaeh, Nick, ChaRay Jr., Malachi, Christian, Kyler, Larry Jr., Emma, CheRae, and Landon; his great-grandchildren, Rylen and McKenzie; his brother in law, Jerry (Grace) Thompson; his sisters in law, Veronica Thompson and Monica (Rev. Scott) Johnson; his aunts, Ruby Malloy of San Bernadino, CA and Lela Wells of New Orleans, LA; his uncles, Allen Singletary of Charlotte, NC, Acie Singletary of Bladenboro, NC, Derry (Lillie) Singletary, Jr. of Bladenboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
