Horace Ryland, Jr was born on September 16, 1950 to Horace Ryland Sr and Alice Ross Ryland in Prairie MS. He was the only son and the youngest of eight children. Those preceding him in death were his mother Alice when he was only 4 years of age, his father Horace Sr and sisters Jennie Lee and Clara.
Horace was brought up in Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church of West Point, Mississippi where he attended with his father and sisters.
Horace attended Fifth Street High School and later transferred and graduated from the Ministerial Institute of West Point MS in 1970 where he played in the school band. As a young man, Horace worked with his father Horace, Sr, who was a skilled painter and fix-it man and taught Horace, Jr the trade. Horace returned to this trade after he retired from the Army. Horace also played guitar and sang with his uncle Homer (Shot) gospel singing group “The Spirit of West Point” until he joined the U S Army.
On February 8, 1977 he joined the US Army where he served honorably until his retirement on July 31, 1992. During his 22 years in the Army, he served as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and earned a number of service badges, commendations medals, service ribbons and a bronze star. He was a Tactical Communication Chief for 22 years and served as Communications Systems Supervisor for 11 of those 22 years.
At the age of 73, Horace Jr transitioned from this world on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
Horace leaves to cherish his memories his special friend Miss Peggie Bowe of Hope Mills NC, his daughter Nichole Teanna (Foy) Munlin, step daughter LaReasha Love , both of Atlanta GA; Sons: Nicholas Ryland of Houston TX, Marsoleno Devon Ryland; Grandchildren: Tarius Bates, Tamryn Ryland, Jasmine Love and Devontae Ryland; Sisters: Bernice Robertson, Betty J Ryland, Annie Easley, Helen Fisher and Rosie Ryland all of St Louis, MO; Uncle Homer Ryland (Gloristeen) of West Point, MS and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
