Mr. Cleveland Bethea, a native of Lumberton, North Carolina, was born on January 29, 1946, to the late James L. and Ollie B. Pierce Bethea. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Southeastern General Hospital in Lumberton, North Carolina.Cleveland was a devoted husband, and a faithful man of God. At an early age, he dedicated his life to Christ. Later, he attended Saint Matthews and Jackson Grove Bible Church of God in Rennert, North Carolina.
Throughout his life, Cleveland was a dedicated worker, serving the City of Lumberton as well as Mountaire and Smithfield before enjoying his well deserved retirement. In his free time, he found peace listening to gospel music, casting a line while fishing, and tending to his garden.Cleveland’s legacy of love lives on through his cherished wife of thirty years, May Lois Bethea.
He also leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Kysandra Gail Hayes; two sisters, Evangelist Urma B. Hammonds (Dr. Bishop Lee) and Vivian McRae (Emmett); one brother, Deacon Earl Thompson (Priscilla); and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
