Mrs. Bettie Jean Alford was born March 21, 1951, in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Annie Lee Robinson. She received her wings and went peacefully into the arms of our Lord at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne, New Jersey.
Bettie was educated through the Bladen County school system and graduated from Bladen Central High School in May of 1969. Later in life she received her Certificate of Medical Billing from William Paterson University continuing education. After graduating high school she moved to Paterson, New Jersey where she met at married the late David Earl Alford and to this union they had 4 beautiful children. Bettie worked at Meadox Medicals in Oakland, New Jersey as a Medical Product Inspector until they closed. She also worked at Patient Care Inc., and Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat as a Home Health Aide until retiring in 2020.
She first attended Miller’s Chapel United Methodist Church in St. Paul’s, N.C. where she accepted Christ at a young age. She then joined Grace Chapel Baptist Church in Paterson, New Jersey where she served on the Missionary Board and supported other ministries for years. Bettie loved cooking and enjoyed being with family and friends. In her free time, she would listen to spiritual programs and read her Bible. Bettie was preceded in death by her mother and son Gerald Devon Alford.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, David M. Alford (Erica) and Reginald D. Alford (Natosha); one daughter, Shamica A. Alford; seven grandchildren, Quashetta, Gerald, Eric, Davida, Ishmael, Charles and Marcus; four great-grandchildren, Jayda, Javoun, Jaelin and Jayceon; two sisters, Tesha Robinson and Tisha Harris (Charles); Aunt Mattie; special cousins, Sharon Robinson, Jacqueline Maxwell (Weldon) and Mervin Robinson (Cassandra); special friend and sister-in-law, Sarah Alford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
