Ms. Vistula Humphrey, 83, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 1:00 pm at Second New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 3225 Purdie Hall Road, St. Pauls, NC. Burial: Goodman Cemetery, Tar Heel, NC. Visitation: Tuesday: 1:00 - 5:00 and the immediate family will be at the funeral home to receive family and friends from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Ms. Vistula W. Humphrey was born to the late Charlie and Eliza Washington on December 31, 1935 in Robeson County. She departed this life on October 31, 2019.
Confessing Christ at an early age. Vistula was a faithful member of Second New Light Missionary Baptist Church. She was active in her Sunday School Class, member of the Senior Choir and worked with various auxiliaries when needed. She attended faithfully until her health began to fail. She also enjoyed being a part of Future Building Christmas Saving Club and buying candy for the children during Halloween.
Vistula retired from Burlington Mills after working for over 26 years. Afterwards she spent a few years working at St. Pauls Middle School in the Cafeteria. Not being able to finish High School when she was younger, Vistula went back to school and received her GED in June 1995.
Early in life Vistula met and married Leon Humphrey and added to her familyof two daughters, three more daughters and two sons. Her daughter Gladys (Willie) Mack, one sister and five brothers preceded her in death.
Forever cherishing her memories are her children: Doris Everett of Red Springs, NC; Benitha (Travis) Townsend of Englewood, NJ; Leon Humphrey of St. Pauls, NC; Queen (Gene) Gerald of St. Pauls, NC; Howard Humphrey of Newark, NJ; Brenda Humphrey of Atlanta, GA.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sixteen Grands, twenty-three Great-Grands, and eleven Great-Great-Grand-children.
Vistula will also be missed by her siblings, Herman Washington, Vashti Washington, Olivia Brown, William (Diane) Washington, Lee (JoAnna) Washington, Mary Washington, Elsie Washington and Delilah (Henry) Gaddy, Sister-in-law; Nellie McNeil, brother-in-law; James Hicks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church members.
Vistula loved to travel and often did so with her family. If Tasha was driving, Vistula was riding!!! She will be greatly missed.
